Dr Simon Tan - Shoulder and Knee

Dr Simon Tan is an orthopaedic surgeon specialising in sports medicine, arthroscopic surgery, shoulder and knee reconstruction.

He completed his medical school training at the University of NSW IN 1993 and became a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of Surgeons in 2003. He then moved to Charlotte, North Carolina where he completed a fellowship at the renowned Orthocarolina clinic. The Orthocarolina clinic is leading the way in the USA in arthroscopic surgery and the treatment of sporting injuries. Dr Tan was one of three Orthopaedic surgeons who travelled with and treated elite sporting teams such as the Carolina Panthers NFL team and the Charlotte Knights Baseball team.

Dr Tan’s areas of interest include arthroscopic shoulder surgery, shoulder instability, shoulder and elbow reconstruction, knee arthroscopy and ligament reconstruction as well as cartilage grafting. He has completed 17 research projects in collaboration with other opinion leaders. Other projects are currently in progress. He has attended over 60 significant lectures, seminars and special study meetings around Australia, New Zealand, the USA and Canada. He also serves regularly as a guest lecturer, sharing his insights with his peers, sports physicians, general practitioners, physiotherapists and other medical staff.

Dr Tan is a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of Surgeons and a VMO at the combined St Vincent’s Hospital Campus, encompassing the St Vincent’s Clinic, St Vincent’s Private Hospital and St Vincent’s Hospital which is a teaching hospital of the UNSW.

Apart from being proudly affiliated with Sydney Sportsmed Specialists in Macquarie St, Dr Tan also consults at St Vincent’s Sportsmed and has consulting suites at St Vincent’s Clinic. He has admitting rights and operates at St Vincent’s Clinic Day Surgery Unit, St Vincent’s Private Hospital and St Vincent’s General Hospital.
