Dr Michael Dixon - Knee and Hip

Dr Michael Dixon is an orthopaedic surgeon subspecializing in knee and hip surgery. He completed his medical school training at the University of New South Wales in 1989. He then did a fellowship in sports medicine at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra before moving to Cape Town in South Africa to undertake sports medicine research and then complete the Fellowship of the College of Surgeons (FCS) in Orthopaedic surgery.

He then returned to Sydney to complete the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRACS) in Orthopaedic Surgery and to do a knee (Dr David Wood) and shoulder (Dr Mark Perko) sports fellowship in Sydney.

In 2002, Dr Dixon did a further subspecialization in knee and hip joint replacement surgery at Harvard Medical School in Boston with Professors Tom Thornhill and Dick Scott.

He has published in peer review journals including Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery (American) and the Journal of Arthroplasty. He has a book chapter in Revision Total Knee Arthoplasty ed. J Bono, R Scott.

His areas of interest are in knee and hip surgery. This includes knee arthropscopy, reconstruction, multiple ligament injuries, cartilage grafting, unicompartmental and total knee replacements. His areas of interest in hip surgery include total hip replacement, resurfacing procedures and arthroscopy.

Apart from proudly being affiliated with Sydney Sportsmed Specialists in Macquarie St, Dr Dixon also has consulting rooms in Miranda, Kensington and Kogarah. He has admitting rights and operates from Prince of Wales Private, St George Private, Kareena Private and Sutherland Public Hospitals.
